Remove Frame Vanlandeghem and Bobrosky big stars at Speedo Western Nationals February, 22, 2010
SASKATOON – Chantal Vanlandeghem of Winnipeg and Chad Bobrosky of Calgary collected three gold medals apiece on Sunday to conclude impressive performances at the Speedo Western Nationals swimming competition.
In the women’s 15 and under age group, Vanlandeghem earned victories in the 50 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle on Sunday to finish with a meet high seven individual gold. Her other wins this week were in the 50 and 100 freestyle, 50 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Other winners in her age group on Sunday were Mariya Chekanovych of Burnaby, B.C., in the 100 breaststroke, Katie Caldwell of Surrey, B.C., in the 200 IM and Tyra Rooney of Calgary in the 800 freestyle.
In the women’s 16 and over age group, Lindsay Delmar of Calgary brought her gold medal count to four with wins in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle. Also with victories were Deanna Matthews of Edmonton in the 200 IM and 800 freestyle, Hanna Kubas of Calgary in the 50 backstroke and Tianna Rissling of Medicine Hat in the 100 breaststroke.
In the men’s 17 and over age group, Bobrosky doubled his individual gold medal count to six with wins in the 200 freestyle, 200 IM and 1,500 freestyle. Other victors were Shane Downey of Calgary in the 50 backstroke, Sean Nugent of Burnaby in the 100 breaststroke and Kyle Troskot of Lethbridge, Alta., in the 100 butterfly.
The winners in the men’s 16 and under age group were Marcus Chu of Vancouver in the 50 backstroke, Nick Kostiuk of Edmonton in the 100 breaststroke, Thomas Jobin of Calgary in the 100 butterfly, Keegan Zanatta of Victoria in the 200 freestyle, Alec Page of Victoria in the 200 IM and Will Brothers of Victoria in the 1,500 freestyle.
